Sitting at a precarious position with the "New Xbox Experience," as it is being called; I decided to hell with caution and upgraded. I have a decent speed cable connection and about 35 minutes later I was presented with an odd opening video and the choice to start making my avatar. All was well and good and things look really nice, but now onto the part that had me cautious. I have a second xbox360 that never sees the internet, which is not important for this article. I often swap the hard drive with my saves and gamer profile back and forth between the two consoles. Setting up the "offine" 360 and starting it up with the hard drive attached had me nervous. This box is considerable older than the online xbox and rumors of 3 red rings are plentiful. To my surprise the NXE applied to the offline xbox360 without issue and the only problem i have is it brings up the failed connection to live notification when I turn the "offline" xbox off. I would image once I have some time to tinker with the settings I can make that go away. I am also hoping that I will be able to setup a profile for each 360 and have the "offline" box only display the gaming portions and not all the xbox live marketplace content that really isn't applicable while offline. That is the next step, once I finish tweaking my avatar to my likeness. |
